Huelskamp Opposes Obama’s War on Rural America
WASHINGTON – Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) made the following statement following the release of Barack Obama’s budget that attacks rural America with new oil taxes and major cuts to crop insurance and rural healthcare.
“At a time when rural incomes have fallen dramatically as crop and oil prices continue to drop, the White House has again targeted rural America with this proposed budget. Whether it is his annual proposal to socialize the crop insurance marketplace, drastic cuts to rural hospital and other community health care facilities, or by imposing a massive $10 per barrel oil tax, Obama is targeting the three top economic drivers of our rural economy. These proposals, coupled with his audacious regulatory agenda, demonstrate how Obama has effectively declared war on rural America.
"Congress should once again reject Obama’s budget. After seven years and $8 trillion of new debt, it is well past time to get serious about adopting a plan that puts us on a path to balance and prosperity."
