Huelskamp Releases Letter from Speaker Boehner
(WASHINGTON) - Congressman Tim Huelskamp received a response from Speaker Boehner in regard to his letter requesting that Republican Leadership disclose the secret scorecard used to determine Committee assignments. The full letter from the Speaker is available here.
Congressman Huelskamp released the following statement after reviewing the letter.
"With this letter, Speaker Boehner has confirmed a secret scorecard was used to punish conservative Republican Congressmen," reported Congressman Huelskamp. "Back in his Pledge to America, then-Minority Leader Boehner decried the fact that 'most important decisions are made behind closed doors, where a flurry of backroom deals has supplanted the will of the people.' This decision by GOP leadership, in a closed-door backroom session, confirms the worst fears of the American people: that promises of transparency were simply an election-year Republican ploy."
"Mr. Speaker, the American people are disappointed. Mr. Speaker, the American people deserve to know. The American people demand to see your secret scorecard."
Timeline of Events:
- Monday, December 3, 2012: Congressman Huelskamp informed by his regional representative on the Steering Committee that he had been removed from House Budget and Agriculture Committee -- with no explanation or warning.
- Wednesday, December 5, 2012: Congressman Huelskamp asks House Leadership to make public the secret scorecard used in the closed-door meeting of the Steering Committee.
- Friday, December 7, 2012: Congressman Huelskamp joins other ousted conservative freshmen to demand Leadership release the secret scorecard to the public.
- Monday, December 10, 2012: Congressman Huelskamp and colleagues receive a letter from Speaker Boehner acknowledging the secret scorecard, claims it was not a single criteria for the purge, but again hides the secret scorecard from the public.
