Huelskamp Reminds America: Get Your Waivers By Thursday
(WASHINGTON) – In his very first speech on the House floor in January, freshman Congressman Tim Huelskamp called on Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to disclose the details of the ObamaCare waiver process. As waivers continued to mount without any justification or explanation of the process, Congressman Huelskamp and several of his colleagues formally requested in June that Secretary Sebelius disclose the details of the ObamaCare waiver program. After a lengthy period of time and a public news conference, Sebelius finally responded, but only in a very limited fashion. A total of more than 1,500 waivers has been granted to labor unions and businesses covering some 3.4 million American workers. On September 22, HHS arbitrarily will stop accepting applications for annual limit waivers.
“Employers have only until Thursday to apply for waivers from ObamaCare, so I encourage them to request their exemptions this week or else face waiting until there is a new HHS Secretary and/or President,” Congressman Huelskamp said. “As arbitrarily as the President and Secretary Sebelius devised the waiver process out of thin air, so they apparently can dissolve it. It’s political favoritism and disregard for equality before the law in the finest Obama tradition."
“There still remains one waiver that has not been granted, and that is one that exempts all Americans from having to live under the authority and control of ObamaCare. If the law is supposed to provide such excellent universal care for everyone, then why are some not forced to live under this law? The question is rhetorical, but the answer is obvious: this administration believes in picking winners and losers at the expense of the American taxpayer.”
